Las Vegas - Horse Racing

Las Vegas does not have any live horse racing. They have tried in the past but the Las Vegas Jockey Club closed after only a couple of weeks. I can't attend a live race in Las Vegas, but I can play the Sigma Derby. This is a classic slot machine which features mechanical horses and betting on the two horses which will come in first and second. The game allows for 10 players to bet at once and uses quarters to play.  There is currently only one remaining Sigma Derby machine in Las Vegas located at the D Las Vegas Casino .

The Poker Hall of Fame

The Poker Hall of Fame was established in 1979 by Benny Binion. It was originally housed at the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas and intended to be a tourist attraction. The first class of inductees in 1979 included Johnny Moss, Nick Dandolos, Felton McCorquodale, Ren Winn, Sid Wyman,  James Butler Hickok, and Edmond Hoyle. In 2004 when Caesars Entertainment acquired the rights to the WSOP they also acquired the Poker Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is now virtual, with the annual induction ceremonies held in conjunction with the WSOP. The criteria for induction are as follows: A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition Be a minimum of 40 years old at time of nomination Played for high stakes Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers Stood the test of time Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.

Slots - Minimum Bet Denomination

I consider every trip to the casinos a learning experience. On my most recent trip I learned that minimum bet denomination in slot play is very important. There is a slot machine I enjoy playing on Borgata online called "Mustang Money." When playing online  I typically play 10 lines at 1 cent per line. I found the same machine in-person at the Tropicana Casino. This machine however had a minimum bet of 50 lines at 1 cent per line. Although I did have some winning spins, I soon lost my $40 dollars with in 30 minutes of play. I am always in favor of low minimum bet denominations as a way to minimize loses. I learned that I would have to pass on certain machines, even if I enjoyed playing them based on the minimum bet requirements.
