Las Vegas - Pawn Stars

As a fan of the History channel's Pawn Stars TV show, I plan to visit while I'm in Las Vegas. The official name of the store is "The World Famous Gold and Silver Pawn Shop." You can actually browse and shop online if your interested. I would like to be on the show while I'm in Vegas, and the best way to do that is to make an appointment in advance. To make an appointment you should email them at pawnstars@gspawn.com, including in the subject the item you are interested in selling and including the dates you will be in town in the body of the message. You can also try the online chat for help selling an item or valuing an item. I have not narrowed down what I'd like to sell, but as a frequent antique and garage sale customer I do have a lot to choose from.

I also plan to stop off at Pawn Plaza next door to meet Rick Harrison and Chumlee. Rick owns a BBQ restaurant that he bartends at on Friday and Saturday nights. Chumblee own's a candy shop and his schedule of when he is in store can be found on their facebook page.

Celebrity Cruise - Summit Casino

It was with no small degree of anticipation that we boarded our first voyage with Celebrity Cruises: a four-night jaunt from Fort Lauderdale, Florida over to Bimini and Nassau in the Bahamas. This was a cruise offer we received from the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City that allowed us to choose from a list of “free” (more on this later) cruises from Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. Having already cruised with NCL, Carnival, and MSC, we were looking forward to the more upscale tone promised by Celebrity. Not to be found here were the boorish drunkards inhabiting your typical four-night Carnival cruise. Yet, Celebrity does aim younger and less stuffy than the scooter-bound octogenarians who supposedly inhabit Holland America's ships. We were eager to see if Celebrity struck the right balance between classiness and fun, between maturity and youthful exuberance. We especially went into the voyage understandably curious about the casino. After all, it was our casino play that got us the ...

Slots - Skill Based

While playing at Binion's Casino I noticed several skill based games. Most of these were advertised as arcade slots. Sadly, I did not take a picture of any of these machines. After some research I found a company called Synergy Blue that develops skill based slots. The company has patented "HAWG" which stands for Hybrid Arcade Wagering Game. Look out for these types of slots next time you visit a casino, they are legal in most jurisdictions.

Laughlin, Nevada

I recently visited Laughlin, Nevada by way of the nearby local airport in Bullhead City, Arizona. Upon arrival it was a easy ten minute drive to Harrah's Laughlin where I was staying. Overall I loved my short trip to Laughlin inspite of the hotel room needing renovations. My room seemed to be stuck about a decade in the past, however the beach and restaurants made up for what the room was lacking. I found there to be a good mix of old and new slots on the gaming floor. Harrah's also has one of the only poker rooms in Laughlin.  I enjoyed casino hopping by way of the river taxi. The Colorado River had beautiful clear water with giant fish. Some nearby companies offer jet ski and boat rentals. I recommend visiting both the Edgewater and Aquarius Casinos since these are newer and more up to date. The Edgewater has a full service Denny's, a new quirky donut shop with tons of unique flavors and a state of the art Bingo room. I enjoyed the free drinks offered at Bingo, both self...
